The Tiffield Art Club was started in 2011 when a few villagers asked Gloria Wells to help them with the basics of watercolour painting, or wanted to develop their existing skills. Jane Proctor kindly offered the use of the top room at The George, where they now meet every Wednesday afternoon from 2.00 until 4.00

The club has gone from strength to strength, and the initial membership of 4 has now grown to 12. All abilities are welcome, from those who are complete beginners at drawing and painting to those who are more experienced. Beginners are helped to get started and offered guidance whenever required, especially in the initial stages, and the more experienced all learn from each other, sharing techniques. Many members were complete novices when they started and now produce extremely pleasing results – the most important thing is that we have fun in the process!

A variety of media is used – pencil, watercolour, line and wash, acrylic, pastels, and mixed media. We have built up a supply of communal materials that everyone can use, either to supplement their own, or to try different techniques before committing to any expenditure.

There is no membership fee or charge for attendance, but those who wish to can, of course, purchase refreshments from our hosts at The George.

An annual exhibition is held, normally during the bank holiday weekend at the end of May, to coincide with the Open Gardens. Visitors are frequently surprised by the quality of the work that is produced by so many people from such a small village!
